Climbing in the Tatry Mountains is back on the AC calendar, and this time we are teaming up with KW Kraków (Club de Haute Montagne Cracovie) for an incredible climbing adventure! Tatry offers breathtaking granite routes, from classic trad climbs to alpine challenges, set in one of Europe’s most stunning mountain landscapes.

Our journey starts in Slovakia, climbing in Kežmarská Dolina for three days (Fri-Sun) with KW Kraków. After a rest day on Monday, we’ll move to the Polish side, testing our skills at Morskie Oko.

Trip limited to 10 participants (full members & aspirants with solid trad climbing skills).

Itinerary

14/08 – Arrive in Poland, drive to Slovakia (parking at Biela Voda: €15/day), hike (~3h 15min) to the hut.
15–17/08 – Climbing in Slovakia with KW Kraków.
18/08 – Rest-day, travel to Poland, hike to Morskie Oko (~3h).
19–21/08 – Climbing in Poland.
22/08 – Depart Tatry, overnight in Kraków.
23/08 – Fly home.

Accommodation & Costs

Estimated cost: £250 accommodation + flights + car rental (split among members).

Extra costs: Parking fees (Slovakia/Poland), TPN (Tatra National Park) entry fee in Poland (~£2), food.

Slovakia (4 nights) – Zelene Pleso Hut (€38.50/night/person dinner included, 4 nights = £130)

• Sleeping in a communal little house next to the hut (mattresses provided, sleeping bags required).
• Cheaper if no breakfast/dinner paid for (you can self-cater, cooking gear required).
• Cash only in the hut

Poland (4 nights) – Tabor near Morskie Oko (64 PLN/night, 4 nights = ~£52 total)

• Tent camping on wooden platforms (3 per tent).
• Fully equipped communal kitchen (2).
• Meals available at Morskie Oko hut if desired (~10 min walk).
• Discount for UIAA-affiliated clubs (33%).

Important Notes

PLEASE DO NOT book flights until mid-June when the campsite availability is confirmed (see below)!

• The meet dates are unusual because 15 August (Friday) is a public holiday in Poland, requiring arrival a day earlier
• Most Polish-side accommodations were booked a year in advance, which was miscommunicated initially. However, a climber’s campsite near Morskie Oko (run by the Polish Alpine Association) will open reservations on 20 June and only then can we book the spaces (100+ available).

Guidebooks & Resources

KW Kraków will provide some topography for us. I will also have some guidebooks and make copies for few classic routes.
