Leo Dickinson: Voices We Have Lost

Leo is a renowned cameraman, director and adventurer who has made well over 60 films, winning every major mountain and adventure film award. He specialises in mountain, ballooning, skydiving and underwater films.
 
During his mountaineering career, Leo has filmed climbs on a number of well-known mountains and interviewed many of the world's most famous mountaineering personalities. This talk is a rare opportunity to see some of these filmed conversations featuring such luminaries as: Anderl Heckmaier & Heinrich Harrer, who made the first ascent of the Eiger North Face in 1938; Ken Wilson on great hoaxes (Gogarth & Cerro Torre); Kurt Diemburger on Toni Egger; Cesare Maestri on Cerro Torre; Martin Boysen/Pete Crew/Don Whillans on bolting ethics on Cerro Torre; Greg Child's eloquent stories; Edmund Hillary; Alison Hargreaves after she soloed Everest without Oxygen; Doug Scott on Whillans; Hannes Stahli a Swiss guide who went with Leo to Death Bivouac by helicopter to film Eric Jones making his solo ascent of the Eiger North Face; Peter Habeler, who with Reinhold Messner made the first ascent of Everest without additional oxygen; and Liz Hawley who kept the records of who did what or sometimes didn’t - in Nepal.

Lectures are free to members. Non-members are welcome to attend for a suggested £3 donation to the Montane Alpine Club Climbing Fund.
