Stephen Livingstone: Climbing Everest with Bentley Beetham
Tuesday 24 September 2024, 07:30pm - 09:30pm
Tuesday 24 September 2024

Curator of Durham University’s major exhibition "Eternal Ascent - Bentley Beetham and the 1924 Mount Everest Expedition” Stephen Livingstone will recreate Bentley Beetham’s famous lantern slide lecture about the Mount Everest 1924 Expedition using photographs from the Bentley Beetham Collection and words taken from a series of articles written for the Sunday Sun newspaper.

Beetham delivered his annual talk to the staff and pupils of Barnard Castle School up until his retirement from teaching in 1949 when his boxes of lantern slides were abandoned in a cupboard. Stephen’s presentation is a unique opportunity to dust off the slides and share the experience of Beetham’s epic trek across the plains of Tibet to within touching distance of the summit of Everest.

The talk will be held at the Alpine Club's premises at 55 Charlotte Road, London, EC2A 3QF from 7PM on 24 September 2024.

For safety reasons, we are required to keep a register of all attendees. If you plan to attend, please complete the form below. (This applies to both members and non-members).

There is no official charge for entry, but we do ask non-members to make a small contribution towards the continued running of the lectures if they are able.
