In May 2011 Derek joined an Eagle Ski Club expedition to the Tavan Bogd region of the Mongolian Altai, a remote wilderness area located in the northwest corner of the country bordering both Russia and China. It is likely that this was the first self-sufficient ski team to visit this area.
The expedition was not without excitement however, with two of the party suffered from severe carbon monoxide poisoning. Despite this, the team successfully ascended four of the five holy summits in addition to a number of other peaks. This is Derek's account of the expedition.
