The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.
With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!
Becoming a MemberAfter the success of the summer family meet last year we thought we could try a shorter local UK meet for families as well. We have booked the club hut in Glenridding for the last three days of the summer half term (so arriving Thursday night and staying until Sunday), although as always the option is open to stay for only part of the trip. In addition there is a campsite just up the road if families would prefer to camp instead.
The area offers a great easy to walk to crag for young children and several excellent first wainwright objectives for little legs. There is also Ullswater just up the road which has islands to explore by kayak or boats can easily be hired in Patterdale. Weather permitting we will also have a group BBQ one night.
