The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.
With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!
Becoming a MemberThe AC has not often had the main summer meet in the Arve Valley, but in 2015 we had a popular (and successful) meet and a return is overdue.
There is a wide range of opportunities, a good mix of easy and hard classic mountain routes, lots of sport and trad climbing in the Aiguille Rouge with superb views over the Mont Blanc range, copious valley cragging for when the weather is not so good, walking, mountain biking and canoeing. Argentière is quieter and more convivial than Chamonix, which is only a short bus ride away. The campsite (Camping du Glacier D'Argentière) is friendly with good facilities including Wi-Fi, bread in the morning, and an occassional pizza van. We will have the group tent as a focal point.
