Location: Ala-Archa, Kyrgyzstan. Perhaps the most popular playground for winter alpinism in ex-USSR. Exact location of the basecamp:

Dates: 1-15 January 2019. Approximate budget: £750-850 with flights.
Logistics & accommodation: 10-11 hours overnight flight from London to Bishkek with a connection in Moscow or Istanbul ? 2 hours drive from the airport to a basic lodge at 2,200 m Next day, a 5-7 hours hike up to the basecamp at 3,400 m; porters are available. Sleeping in warm dorms with full board meals but no shower. Once in a few days we’ll have to bring ice from the glacier for the kitchen.
Routes: glacier ice and mixed, walls and couloirs at about 4,000-4,700 m, between 5 and 25 pitches long and 45-90 degrees steep. Grades: AD- to ED+, but there are a couple of rock PDs and one acclimatization walk-up summit at 4,526 m.
