The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.
With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!
Becoming a MemberJohn will talk about his expedition to the Pamir Alai in summer 2016. With Robert Taylor, he attempted the 900m high unclimbed north face of Muz-Tok; only to be defeated 100m from the summit on this, his second expedition to attempt this ascent. The popularity of the Pamir Alai and Karavshin has been hit since the collapse of the Soviet Union by various security and political problems but events in the past year have dramatically improved the access situation - all will be explained in this lecture.
