The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.
With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!
Becoming a MemberThe Alpine Club, Eagle Ski Club and Alpine Ski Club are organising the Fifth British Ski Mountaineering Symposium to be held over the weekend of 11 - 13 Nov at Plas y Brenin.
These symposia only take place once or twice a decade, and it promises a heady mix of inspirational and factual lectures, engaging skills and knowledge workshops and vital networking and social time. The format will be similar to the symposium held there in 2011, with lectures on the Saturday and workshop sessions on the Sunday. Overnight accommodation will be available in the centre on Friday and Saturday nights, meaning that this will be an ideal opportunity to socialise - to meet up with ski touring friends, or to make new contacts.
For the first 3 weeks, bookings will only be open to members of the three sponsoring clubs: the Alpine Club, Alpine Ski Club and Eagle Ski Club. The event has a limited capacity of 120 and is likely to sell out fairly quickly, so if you would like to go, it would be wise to book as soon as you can to guarantee a place.
The Symposium will be held over the weekend of 11 - 13 Nov 2016 at Plas y Brenin. The format will be fairly similar to the successful event held there in 2011. Lectures will be held in the mornings followed by workshop sessions in the afternoons. Overnight accommodation is available in the centre on Friday and Saturday nights, with a dinner on Saturday evening - making this an ideal opportunity to meet up with old friends, make new contacts and discuss touring plans.
Lectures include:
Workshop sessions on offer include:
